Java Trip with Rain and Tante Sandra, Part 8

On Sunday, 16 July 2023, Tante Sandra, Me and our friend from Suriname, Haliq, went on an amazing adventure.

We rented a car including a driver for a whole day tour. We started pass 8, drove to Borobudur and arrived there around 10. Haliq and I bought our tickets for local price, because we have been living in Indonesia for 5-6 years and know the Indonesian and Javanese languages; and how to interact with locals. As for tante Sandra, she bought the tourist ticket.

As we entered, we got sandals and a tote bag as souvenirs and continued our trip. All the visitors were divided into different groups with each a tour guide who guided us further while sharing the history of the Borobudur temple. We were in group 25. I was very surprised to see the Borobudur temple from a far, something that I have only seen on pictures, videos, the internet or the television or heard. Seeing one of the Seven Wonders of the World in real life and being able to touch the stones and be on it, is something I couldn’t imagine myself doing.

Haliq, tante Sandra and I took a lot of videos and pictures and had an amazing time.

As we got back at the bottom of the magnificent temple, I noticed a small zoo, playground and park all three in one and was very interested to take a look since we were still there. The first thing we saw as we entered were two girls handling two snakes. Visitors were allowed to take a picture with either of the snakes and give a donation. There were different types of lizards and salamanders in display and pythons as well. Furthermore, there were turtles and deer also to be seen. The moment we wanted to exit the property, we walked through this market where they sell all kinds of souvenirs and also clothes, and then an area where they sell food.

As we found our driver, we continued our trip to a small restaurant to have lunch. Afterwards, we went straight to Gunung Merapi which took around 1 and a half hour to reach. In the meanwhile, we took some rest in the car. The closer we got to Gunung Merapi (Merapi Mountain), we saw some jeeps with tourists rifting on water. As we have arrived at the spot, we bought a small package for our mountain adventure; jeep, driver (guide) and visiting 3 spots. As we went on, we had to wear helmets, visited a small museum where our guide share the story of what happened at the mountain and the explosion of the Volcano; then we visited the Bunker meant to keep people save but failed; and a park where you can take pictures on a bridge being held by a huge hand.

As our adventure here has come to an end, we went back to the hotel as for Haliq back to his boardinghouse. It surely was an adventurous day for everyone as we enjoyed. Credits to tante Sandra who made this amazing experience and adventure possible for me and Haliq, students from Suriname in Indonesia.

To be continued.....
