How I describe Blaze/ LifeHouse Bali

Someone: “How would you describe Blaze- or LifeHouse Bali in one word?”

Me without thinking, hesitating, but with confident: “Joy.”

Blaze Bali is a place located in Bali, Indonesia. A place where free languages courses are given to students for free on every Sunday at 10 o’clock in the morning. English, Korean, Mandarin and even Japanese are being taught. Surprisingly the courses are being taught by youngsters under 25 years old, most of them still go to school; and for about 90% of all students that come here to learn, are teenagers or in their early twenties.

Going to Blaze Bali makes you feel welcome, because it all starts at the moment you arrive. Walking to the main door, there will be some youths standing outside to welcome you warmly. Here you can also register your name. Stepping inside the building, you get to choose which language course you want to take. The young teachers always teach with a smile on their faces, and if there’s something you don’t understand, please don’t hesitate to ask, because they’re always happy and prepared to help you.

Beside the classes, before and after entering the building, if you need any assistance, please feel free to ask for guidance, because there are people around willing to assist/ guide you.

Right after the classes have ended, there will be 2 mc’s walking to the front stage to welcome everyone and invite everyone to play some games. You are free enough to participate in them or you might be picked. The games are usually simple, but sometimes they can also be a bit complicated, but it’s always fun, because the atmosphere is always getting more and more filled with joy, smiles and laughter.

After this part is finished, there’s a short break to get to know others as well. Everyone is super friendly and approachable. They’ll walk to you and introduce themselves to you.

As the short breaks comes to an end, the church part comes on. There’s a live worship performance for the opening which usually 3 youths are singing on stage and while the audience go to the front, dancing and singing along the songs. If you don’t know the songs, don’t worry, because they got it all prepared by showing the lyrics on the wide screen behind the performers.

Then two other youths go to the front to preach; one in Indonesian and the other translates in English, so don’t worry whether you’re Indonesian or a foreigner. Later on, the pastor also comes to front to preach and at the end, they close everything with another live performance full with joy.

Don’t think it’s over now, because there’s another part that they call ‘Grow Course’, it’s the part where you get to learn more about God and Jesus Christ, but most importantly, also to know about yourself. This is how I get to know about myself as well, but that’s another story.

LifeHouse Bali also offers different teams in which you can freely join and find out about your talent(s) and make use of them, such as: welcome team, photography-, translation-, setup team, graphic team, etc.

If you don’t have anything to do, you are also welcome to spend the day outside Blaze Bali with them and have lunch together or join them in different activities they always hold, such as a badminton hangout, basketball hangout, and other activities as well. To be honest, I think I have participated in most of the activities till the end of my stay in Bali.

If I have to describe Blaze Bali or LifeHouse Bali with my own words, I don’t think there’s an end to my description of my experience here. It’s the first place where I ever felt warm and welcome before since my arrival in Indonesia, the first place where I made friends which they’re so approachable towards me. They accepted me as a foreigner, but treated me as one of them.

Blaze Bali or LifeHouse Bali is not just any place where you can learn languages for free or not even just any church, but a place that is filled with joy, warmth and blessings; a place to meet new people and make friends; and experience the value of true friendship; a place to have fun and a place to get to know yourself even more.

I do admit that I felt as if I they’re part of me and I’m part of the family.
